Agriculture & Livestock Business in DRC
In order to build programs in conflict areas, that also do not create more dependence on foreign aid, programs must be sustainable for the local people running them. Jobs are very difficult to find in eastern DRC and insecurity has made it difficult for residents and displaced persons to live in a self-sustaining way. The Global Refuge Project has made it a primary goal to bring jobs to the area, while also increasing access to essential food and proper nutrition for all people affected by the conflict.
Our business goals are to:
-Improve the overall economy by reducing the cost of food in local markets.
We will sell a percentage of the produce and livestock in the local markets. Inflation in food prices during the pandemic has left people starving as produce is in short supply and very expensive. By selling produce in the local markets at a reasonable price, we can influence prices of food to decrease and become more manageable. This can have a large impact on the entire local economy in these areas.
-Reinvest a percentage of the profits from the businesses to grow capacity and increase financial leverage.
-Provide employment to displaced people in the region where there are few jobs and massive unemployment.
-Generate profits that go directly toward funding our clinic rehabilitation programs, reducing overall foreign funding needed.
We are raising $20,000 to purchase additional livestock and to increase the diversity of the crops we are planting. Investments in this business will continue to generate returns month after month, as crops are harvested and livestock multiply.
