SCREAM
SCREAM

GRI seeks to be a voice for the voiceless - to scream for the lives of vulnerable children and victims of genocide and conflict. SCREAM is our advocacy program through which we seek to make known the stories of hurting and forgotten people to people of influence and to people who want to make a difference in our world.

GRI SCREAM campus and community groups come together to petition their congressmen and local media to make the forgotten around the world a priority on our national agenda and in the news. SCREAM groups also hold events to build awareness in their communities about events taking place in the world that can no longer be ignored.

What is SCREAM?
SCREAM- a loud empathetic, exclamation of extreme emotion
SCREAM- to represent those who cannot represent themselves
SCREAM- to speak for those who don’t have a voice
SCREAM- is designed to motivate people to become part of a cause

SCREAM’s Goals?
-to plead the case of the forgotten to the media through various means
-to plead the case of the forgotten before Congress
-to challenge local politicians to get involved with these needs
-to challenge college and university students to make a difference in the world in which they live and be vocal and passionate about matters of life and death
-to use the community and campuses to draw attention to the needs of the forgotten

SCREAM for…

SCREAM Child Protection:
-no group is more forgotten than children
-children are always an object of leverage or exploitation in the midst of conflict and disaster
-boys are forced to take up arms at ages 7 or 8 yrs old
-girls are kidnapped and forced to sell their young bodies on the streets for money
SCREAM Genocide & Conflict:
-currently there are more than 5 active genocides taking place in the world
-ethnic and religious cleansings are wiping out entire populations
-total genocides worldwide add up to more than 2,350,00 people murdered
SCREAM Anti Corruption:
-every year Americans give billions of dollars in aid to be administered through government and non-government grants
-unfortunately, a large portion of this money is lost because it’s given to corrupt governments
-most of the time, this money never reaches the people it’s intended for
SCREAM Awareness:
-americans, in comparison with people in other countries, are significantly less involved in politics and advocacy, GRI wants to assist in bringing about positive change.

What? Screaming for Burma

Where? Palm Beach Atlantic University

Why? The SCREAM group at Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) in West Palm Beach, FL had a screening of the movie Burma VJ on April 22, 2010. Students and faculty gathered to view the live footage taken of the 2007 protests in the streets of Rangoon, Burma. "We are hoping to use our liberty and freedom in America to promote the liberty of those being oppressed inside Burma" said Keelan O'Carroll, the leader of the PBA SCREAM group. Students purchased SCREAM shirts and also signed petitions asking our Congressmen and women to become more active for human rights in Burma. Numerous events are planned for the fall semester on the PBA campus to speak out for human rights in Burma.

What? Screaming for DRC

Where? The Master's College Scream group/club located in Santa Clara, CA (Southern Cal, near L.A.)

Why? The SCREAM Club at Master's College held a ralley in Santa Clara to raise awareness about the situation in the DR Congo. The students held up signs telling of the staggering death rate in the Congo, the rampant measles and malaria outbreaks, particularly among children, and websites where people can go to learn more.

The Master's College SCREAM club wants their school and community to be aware of the situation in the Congo so that they can give to, pray for, and go to the Congo to bring much needed aid there.
